You never know what you will find on the National Mall. On August 24, 2006 the International Astronomical Union stripped Pluto of planet status, and reclassified it as a ‘dwarf’ planet. On about August 28, visitors began leaving notes and cards at the Pluto unit in front of the Smithsonian Castle. Apparently all the other planets were in DC to sign a condolence card.
